Marvel Cinematic Universe Inspired Icons

I’ve been a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since it came out in 2008 - almost 12 years ago from when I finished this project. As my trademark of set collections, illustrations and absolute nerdiness over the Marvel Superhero world - it seemed that this icon set was…. inevitable… (yes I laughed when I wrote that - grinning to myself like Thanos pre-snap)

I’ve done a couple of different versions with some of the movies just as an alternative for colour or icon (I couldn’t decide, so I thought to provide the options)

I’ve split the icons into phases they were released in (as the movies were split) just to group them easier

Iron Man (2008)

Iron Man (2008)

Sidenote: Most (if not all) of the Iron Man icons were inspired by his arc reactor he primarily used during the movies they represent.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier v2 (2014)

Sidenote: I was really torn on whether to use Captain America’s WS uniform or his stealth shield that he used at the beginning. I liked his shield colours, but equally I wanted to have something more distinguishable rather than his shield, so I used his torso uniform as an alternate.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Sidenote: It’s probably less popular and probably one that required the least amount of actual illustration design - because this is a matching logo of the official Guardians of the Galaxy badge. I had considered using Starlord’s mask as an alternative for either this or v2.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Sidenote: This phase had the most icons, and it didn’t help that there was a few variations on this set - however I hope you enjoy the options!

Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Sidenote: I thoroughly enjoyed designing this - (spoiler) I was really wanting to show the divide, as well as the damage of Black Panther’s claws on Cap’s shield, as well as Iron Man’s shattered arc reactor.

Sidenote: I couldn’t decide on the colours. There’s a lot of reds and blues already, so I wanted to try and just have a few colour choices. Red for his cape, purple for his costume and then there’s the incorporation of the glyph colours too.

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Sidenote: This took a while to design, as I wanted to ensure there is a unique symbol from Thor’s other movies. Finding Thor’s gladiator helmet as a good reference was quite the feat.

Sidenote: This effect of the dusting (or rather what I saw as flakes rather than dust) took me a while to figure out how I wanted to approach it - as I wasn’t sure how to replicate this type of effect in Illustrator. I’m used to doing this kind of effect in Photoshop instead.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

Sidenote: Helmet designs often took the longest, as the references of shape and colour with their most distinctive features really had to reflect the actual costume as accurate as I could. Half of the design process was finding a variety of good reference pictures.
